How do I
How do I manage invites and send invitations to my friends?
Inviting friends is critical for you and Collexpo – More collectors means more buyers and sellers, more collections to explore, more experts, and more FUN!
And remember, for every successful invitation you send, you will earn credits to be used as real currency on Collexpo. See Credits below for more info.
Once you join Collexpo, you will see a Manage Invites link at the top right of every page. At this link, you can enter email addresses for the friends you wish to invite. Aside from this, there is almost no work on your part. Collexpo will generate and send a short email on your behalf. You will notice that each invitation is added to the table on this page. It shows when an invited friend has visited Collexpo and whether or not they registered when they came.
Access my account information and preferences?
Click here to access the My Account page. The button at the top of this page will also take you to My Account. And, every page on Collexpo features two links to Help, one at the top right and the other in the footer at bottom right.
Change my password?
Access My Account and change your password by entering it into the designated fields.
Edit my profile?
To edit your profile, click here or go to your Profile page and click the edit link near the top right of the page.
Make sure my email address is private?
To ensure that no Collexpo member's email address is revealed without a member's knowledge, the system automatically keeps all of your private contact information private. We NEVER sell any information about you or use data about you to provide any third party access to your personal information. See here for our privacy policy.
You may opt to reveal your email address to other Collexpo members by showing it on your profile page. OR you may provide it to specifc members so that they can contact you directly.
Find collectors who share my collecting interests?
There are three ways to find users who share your collecting interests
- See the list of such users provided both on your Dashboard (home) page and on your Profile page
- Note users who have added items you also like to their favorites
- Join discussion groups who are addressing topics you enjoy
- Spend time reading other users' Profile and Collections pages.
What are points?
Points are Collexpo's way of giving you credit for being a valuable member of our community. Points can also be used as a proxy to gauge the level of a member's expertise in his or her hobby. Here are the specific ways you earn points by using the site:
- Registering as a new user
- Add a new friend to your contacts
- Updating your profile page
- Editing information associated with a collectible item that is catalogued in the item browser.
- Submitting research articles.
- Inviting new users to join Collexpo
- Joining a group
Add items to my collections (favorites)?
Adding items from the item browser to your Collections page is a great way to enjoy Collexpo. It also allows you to showcase your real collection while indicating gaps you'd like to fill. Alternatively, some users build virtual collections just to demonstrate their collecting interests.
How do I sort my Collections into Folders?
As you add many items from the browser into your Collections, you may wish to sort them into folders of specific groups. Check out Ernie's Collection page to see how he organizes his sports cards. In addition to the default "New" folder, you already have 4 other folders: Fantasy (for items you wish you could own), Wanted (for items you are trying to obtain) and two Custom folders. You can rename these custom folders by clicking the "edit" link in the header for the folder carousel. To make a new folder, click on the "add" link next to the "edit".
It is easy to move an item (or group of items) from one folder to another. Simply place a check next to the items you want to move. Then using the "Move to..." link (below the folder carousel), click on the target folder in the dropdown list. The checked items are automatically transferred to the chosen folder. In future versions of the site, we intend to add drag-and-drop functionality for sorting items to folders.
Find other members?
If you suspect a friend or acquaintance is a Collexpo member but can't seem to find him or her on the site, try either Master Search located on every page or the Friend Finder. In either case, simply enter part of the person's real name, suspected site ID or email address, and you will see a list of members matching the criteria.
Add Members to My Contacts?
There are multiple ways to add members to your contacts. The easiest is to access a member's Profile page and click the add [name] to my Contacts. An alternative is to search for a user by keyword in either Master search or the Friend Finder. Each result should have a link to add that member to your contacts.
Find articles relating to a topic?
To search for research articles relating to specific collecting topics, either performa keyword search through the master search located at the top of every page or access the Find Research page to perform a dedicated article search.
Use the item browser?
The browser is designed to be a quick and easy alternative to text based searching. To use it, start with the box farthest to the left and make a selection from the available list. Once you click your selection, a resulting list will appear in the box just to its right. Repeat this action two more times and you will have drilled down to a much narrowed list of items matching your criteria. Clicking on an item in the fourth (and farthest right) box will cause many details about that specific item to populate the rest of the page. As a note, items listed in this fourth box are listed alphabetically in baseball cards (rather than by card number).
Here is a step by step example with a search for the famous T206 Honus Wagner baseball card:
- STEP 1: In the first (and farthest left) box (#1), scroll to 1909 and click it.
- STEP 2: In the resulting box (#2) to its right, scroll to American Tobacco Company and click it.
- STEP 3: In the resulting box (#3), choose T206, White Border ? it is the only set produced by American Tobacco Company in that year.
- STEP 4: In the resulting box farthest to the right (#4), find Honus Wagner by scrolling to names beginning with H.
In only 4 clicks, you can begin ENJOYING all the wonderful information about this card. Take a minute and demonstrate your own expertise by editing the card information. Provide some added commentary on the history of the card, upload a new picture or even leave a valuation estimate.

Subscription Fees and Other Charges
What does Collexpo charge fees for?
Collexpo is a free service, unless you choose to subscribe to premium services or sell items through the Collexpo marketplace. We do charge for the following services:
- Premium tier subscriptions. Currently we offer two:
- $5.99 per month per user allows a user to list and find items that you wish to trade (i.e. barter) with other collectors. If you pay the fee, there is no limit to how much trading you can do.
- $39.00 per month allows commercial users to lower their transaction fees when they sell items on Collexpo. To qualify for this package, you or your company must be selling at least 50 items per month.
- Seller Transaction Fees. These are fees assessed to members who list and sell items through Collexpo. There are two basic types:
- Listing fees — Any time a user creates a new auction or for-sale listing, the fee is $0.25. This fee is assessed for each new listing.
- Final Value Fees — When a listing results in a sale, the seller is assessed a fee, based on a tiered scale. The scale includes percentage fees applied to the selling (final value) price. (see related)
- Collexpo also charges related vendors and partners fees to sponsor the Collexpo website.
If you have never been asked to provide billing information (such as a credit card), you are not paying for any services.
What are Final Value Fees?
If you sell through our auction marketplace, final values will be charged according to the following tiers:
| Final Value | Fee Charged |
|---|---|
| Item not sold | No fee |
| $0.01 - $25.00 | 9.00% of the closing value |
| $25.01 - $1000.00 | 9.00% of the initial $25.00 ($2.25), plus 4.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1000.00) |
| Equal to or over $1000.01 | 9.00% of the initial $25.00 ($2.25), plus 4.50% of the initial $25.00 - $1000.00 ($43.88), plus 2.25% of the remaining closing value balance (Closing price - $1000.00) |
Example 1: Final value = $9.87; Final Value Fee = $0.89; Total Fee for sale = $1.14
- Listing fee ($0.25) + Final Vale Fee [(9.00% x $9.87) + (4.50% x $0.00) + (2.25% x $0.00)] = $1.14
- $0.25 + ($0.89 + $0.00 + $0.00) = $1.14
Example 2: Final value = $38.00; Final Value Fee = $2.84; Total Fee for sale = $3.09
- Listing fee ($0.25) + Final Vale Fee [(9.00% x $25.00) + (4.50% x $13.00) + (2.25% x $0.00)] = $3.09
- $0.25 + ($2.25 + $0.59 + $0.00) = $3.09
Example 3: Final value = $5,230.00; Final Value Fee = $141.30; Total Fee for sale = $141.55
- Listing fee ($0.25) + Final Vale Fee [(9.00% x $25.00) + (4.50% x $975.00) + (2.25% x $4,230.00)] = $141.55
- $0.25 + ($2.25 + $43.88 + $95.17) = $141.55
If my item does not sell, what is the cost to relist the item?
The cost to re-list your item is $0.25 per listing. Final value Fees are always the same when your listing results in a sale to another party.
